Steve Malzberg, substituting for Mike Gallagher this morning interviewed Leroy Comrie, a City Councilman who supports the new law banning Happy Meals in NY. Every bit of idiocy promulgated in San Francisco seems to be greedily accepted by NY politicians. The problem is that Leroy provided a very poor defense of his position, claiming that children ages 2-5 years place such undue pressure on their parents who are then forced to bring them to McDonald’s and purchase Happy Meals specifically for the toy. The Councilman also weakly defended his position when Malzberg suggested that the parents had the option to cook at home, when he stated that parents returned home too late for work and were too stressed out to cook. The law would allow for a toy to be placed in Happy Meals if the total calories did not exceed 500 calories. I take issue with the government interfering at any level in decisions that are parental and not governmental. That an individual such as Leroy has been elevated to a position seemingly important, but not necessarily so, is quite upsetting. One has to wonder who the other choices were. Perhaps Leroy should re read the U.S. Constitution if he has ever read it at all.
Leroy came very close to suggesting that parents might be starving their children if they did not comply with the law.
Can we get THREE CHEERS FOR FREEDOM OF CHOICE..?
